Shogo Omori, CEO of CAEN Inc., participated in the online hackathon "AI Agent Hackathon with Google Cloud," hosted by Zenn and sponsored by Google Cloud, and submitted the mobile app "Otenki Okasan."
■ Hackathon Overview
- "AI Agent Hackathon with Google Cloud" is an online hackathon hosted by "Zenn," a community for engineers, and sponsored by Google Cloud. Its goal is to develop products with new value in a short period of time by leveraging Google Cloud's latest generative AI and AI agent technologies.
- Key features are as follows.
- Organizer: Zenn
- Sponsor: Google Cloud
- Theme: Product development utilizing generative AI and AI agent technologies
- Format: Online (participants are free to join and develop during the period)
- Eligibility: Open to individuals or teams, targeting a wide range of participants from beginners to experienced engineers
- Development Period: Create and submit a prototype within a limited short timeframe
- Provided Technologies: Free access to Google Cloud's various APIs (including the latest generative AI technologies such as Gemini) and development environments
■ About the Submitted Work: "Otenki Okasan"
"Otenki Okasan" is a mobile app that uses generative AI to provide a warm, familiar experience — like a mother saying "Did you bring your umbrella?" or "It's cold today, wear your coat!" every morning.
- Daily push notification at 7 AM:
Delivers the day's key weather information to users in a "mom-like" tone.
- Simple and intuitive design:
When you open the app, the day's important weather highlights (precipitation probability, temperature differences, weather warnings, etc.) are displayed concisely and clearly.
- UX aimed at a "familiar AI experience":
Designed so anyone can use it easily — no complex operations or settings required — with an emphasis on making AI feel part of everyday life.
- Target users:
Those who tend to miss weather forecasts, people with busy daily lives, as well as the elderly and children — a broad target audience.
■ Development Highlights
The development centered on Google Cloud's latest generative AI technology (Gemini API), and by partially introducing an AI agent-driven development process, we were able to create a practical prototype within a short period of time.
Specific key efforts include the following:
- Utilizing Google Cloud Gemini API:
Used the Gemini API to generate natural, friendly "mom-like" text based on weather forecast data.
- AI agent-assisted development:
By having an AI agent support certain tasks and parts of the implementation, we improved development efficiency and raised the quality of the deliverable within the limited timeframe.
- Attention to user experience (UX):
To achieve "natural communication that doesn't make users feel like they're interacting with AI," we made careful adjustments to word choice and notification timing.
Through these efforts, we pursued a service that is "truly useful to users" rather than being "technology-driven."
