CAEN Inc. (Shibuya, Tokyo; CEO: Shogo Omori) has opened pre-registration today, May 27, for 'notAI,' an illustration posting platform that prohibits AI-generated content, and has launched a dedicated landing site.
'notAI' is a new illustration platform where users prove their work is not AI-generated by attaching a timelapse video of the creation process. This service proposes a "separation" solution to the problems surrounding AI-generated illustrations.

Around July 2022, image generation AIs such as "Midjourney" and "Stable Diffusion" emerged, making it possible for people without specialized knowledge to generate images using AI.
As these tools became publicly available, "AI artists" and AI illustration-specific platforms proliferated rapidly, and the following problems became apparent:
As a solution to these social issues, we propose "separation" and developed 'notAI,' a platform that handles only non-AI illustrations.

'notAI' is an illustration posting web platform that handles only works that are not AI-generated.
On notAI, a timelapse video of the illustration creation process is used to prove that a work is "not AI-generated." By attaching a video showing the creation process, it becomes clear that the work "was created by a human."
Ahead of the planned beta release in mid-2024, we are launching a dedicated landing site and opening pre-registration.

When generating an illustration using AI, the typical flow is: "a human inputs a prompt" → "AI outputs a single image." Recently, AI can also generate images from image data, but in all cases the output is "a single image generated by AI."
In other words, AI-generated content lacks the "creation process" that exists when a human creates an illustration.
Therefore, notAI requires a timelapse video of the creation process, guaranteeing that all works "were created by human hands."
Major illustration software such as "CLIP STUDIO PAINT" and "ibis Paint" natively support timelapse video recording of the creation process. Users can easily create a video of their workflow.
By requiring a timelapse video for all submissions, notAI realizes a platform consisting only of "works that are not AI-generated."
All works on notAI are created by human hands. There is always a creator's "intent" behind them — something that AI-generated content inherently lacks.
Therefore, notAI values "the creator's intent behind the work" and allows users to add "commentary" and "points of pride," highlighting human creativity.
To prevent unauthorized use of works by AI, notAI plans to implement anti-scraping measures such as access control, rate limiting, and copy-prevention measures such as disabling right-click. We are also considering introducing technology that adds noise to illustrations (e.g., Mist) to prevent unauthorized AI training.
"notAI" is in preparation for its beta release in mid-2024, and is currently accepting pre-registrations for early beta access on the dedicated landing site.
